Baking Adenture: Scones

This morning I woke up, hungry. Famished even. The idea occurred to me that I should bake something to pass the laid back time on this particular Sunday morining. I was to bake one thing, and one thing only.

Scones.

The first thing that comes to my mind when I think scones is a dry and bland British pastry. Which it is. Nothing against it. But there are so many things in this world that are dry and bland but are perfectly delicious. Take pasta for an example. Before its cooked its crunchy, dry and bland! The Italian's took this carbohydrate-tastic food item and turned it into a miracle. Why can't I do that with the British scone?

I don't see the challenge!

After finding a good recipe (see link for more information), I began my baking adventure. After combining the dry ingridients, I attempted to use a hand mixer to combine the powdery batter with the ice cold pads of butter.

Not a good idea.

With baking powder, and a whole lot of flour in my face, I decided it was best if I put the milk in next. Success! The powder quickly turned into a thick dough, I grinned proudly at my accomplishment and plopped it onto a lightly floured surface. I kneaded it, cut it into triangles, and placed them gently on the baking pan. As a finishing touch I placed a sliced pear on top.

Fifteen minutes later.

I did it!! I couldn't believe my eyes as the golden brown pastries came out the oven. They were crispy, light, and most importantly moist.

First Entry! Woot!

The purpose of this blog is simple. Its a place to speak freely of my interests in hopes that someone is reading. I've always wanted to name something "rainbow crayon." I really don't know why... but I love the name.

I plan on posting pictures, videos, and possibly reviewing things. But you never know... I'll post whatever comes to mind.

Rereading this while I type, I'm noticing how bland I sound. I am not like that! I'm a energetic, unicorn and  exclamation  point loving person!

Anyways, I hope this blog is enjoyable! And somewhat interesting!
